The UAB presents two databases on the cinema and literature of China

On 12 December, the Chinese-Spanish/Catalan Translation Research Group (TXICC) presented two databases on Chinese literature and Chinese cinema translated in Spain, product of a research project conducted by the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. The presentation took place at 6 p.m. at the Confucius Institute of Barcelona (Carrer Elisabets 10), and included speeches by the researchers in charge of the project, who explained the objectives, creation processes and potential of this initiative.

The first database, entitled "El cine chino traducido en España", contains all the films originally from China which have arrived to Spain through different channels such as cinema halls and festivals. This database offers a real image on the type of Chinese cinema reaching our country and provides data with which to analyse it from the perspective of audiovisual translation.

The second database, entitled "La literatura china traducida en España", is a twin database which includes all Chinese literature published in Spain and which has been translated into one of the country's officially spoken languages. The objective is to provide empirical data with which to analyse different aspects of Chinese literature through its translation, such as the (in)visibility of translators and the effects specific books have thanks to their editions or translations.

Both databases are dynamic and regularly updated, and were created with the desire to transfer this information to society, given that it is not only of academic interest. The project was conducted with the financial support of the Confucius Institute Foundation in Barcelona and the UAB Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies.
