Hugo Fernández, lecturer in the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy, died on 9 January 2025. The UAB would like to extend its most sincere condolences to his family and friends, and all those who knew him, and expresses its sadness in having lost a member of its community.

Hugo Fernández

Hugo Fernández graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the UAB just over 25 years ago. He was a prominent and beloved figure in the community. He was a fellow in pathological anatomy, received his PhD from the UAB and was director of the Barcelona Zoo's Veterinary Service.

His contribution to teaching and research at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are incalculable: he actively participated in various subjects, gave inspiring lectures, trained interns and residents, and directed PhD theses with dedication and passion.

He was not only an exceptional professional, but also a vital, intelligent, cultured and generous person. For many people with whom he coincided, he was more than a colleague, he was a friend, an emotional support and a companion with whom they shared important moments in life.

His absence leaves a huge void in the hearts of all the people who knew him and in our community.
