The first session will begin on Monday 26 June at 9 a.m. at the Aulari Central with a total 72 students participating. The second session will include 59 students. The majority of students participating in the courses come from American universities, followed by students from Morocco.
All of them attended a welcoming session at the Cinema Hall of the Plaça Cívica. The opening speech was given by Màrius Martínez, Vice Rector for International Relations, who explained that "in addition to learning in class and enjoying the campus, we invite you to build your own network of new people you will be meeting during your stay".
The academic coordinator of the International Summer Term programme Graham Mortyn, spoke in detail about the programme's contents and encouraged them to make the most out of this international experience.
Lecturer Fiona Kelso from the UAB Language Service gave an introduction on Catalonia and the Catalan language, highlighting that over 10 million people around the world speak it.
Following that, police officer Ani Garcia gave some tips on safe travelling, especially around Barcelona.
Finally, Vice Rector for Students Sara Moreno presented the members of the Buddy Programme, volunteer students who will accompany them on their stay. The "Buddies" then explained a series of afternoon activities prepared for them after their lectures.
Following the welcoming session, students were shown some of the services available to them on campus.
The Institute of Educational Studies (ICE), Office of International Relations and the Community Involvement Unit were thanked for their hard work in organising the International Summer Term 2017 and making its activities possible.
