The delegate is an essential figure for a correct academic follow-up of the degrees, as it is the interlocutor between the students and the faculty.

A total of 810 students registered in the Census of Delegates took part in the training sessions of delegates. The success of this first semester is reflected in the number of attendees who have completed the sessions in recent months. “Basic tools for the delegate” and “Academic follow-up surveys” were specifically the topics that brought together most participants.

The delegate is an essential figure for a correct academic follow-up of the degrees, as it is the interlocutor between the students and the faculty. The student in question who assumes this role is the one in charge of detecting the needs of the group, resolving conflicts, encouraging good practices in the classroom, as well as elaborating an academic tracking.

In order for the delegates to be able to carry out their work in an optimal way, the UAB Community Development Unit is in charge of preparing each year a specific training consisting of 14 sessions aimed at students who hold this position. In addition, for the creation of the program, campus services and units collaborate with the unit, such as the Office of Teaching Quality, the Academic Affairs Area, the Observatory for Equality, UAB Alumni and the International Relations Area.

The training sessions are divided into two types: autonomous and group work. As for the former, these are activities such as questionnaires or forums, which are carried out through the Moodle platform and last for one week. Group training, on the other hand, consists of the explanation of a topic or service by an expert in the field for 90 minutes. Until now, group sessions have been held both in the morning and in the afternoon in the Annex Room of the Hotel d’Entitats. But this year, due to the pandemic, it has been decided to make them online through Microsoft Teams.

The training program is not only a very useful tool for delegates but also a meeting space where students from different degrees can share experiences and therefore create a network.

Sessions will end in May and until then, many students are expected to gather again. All the programming related to the training is available at the UAB website. Any inquiries about the sessions can be made via email elcens.participacio@uab.cat.
