The UAB Senate met today in an extraordinary session to approve the rules of operation of the Drafting Committee of the University Statutes, as well as the process of drafting and presenting the drafting proposal to the Senate itself, which will have to approve the new statutes at the end of the process. The members of the Drafting Committee have also been elected, which will be made up of four representatives of the teaching staff, four representatives of the student body and four representatives of the administrative staff.

Members of the academic and research staff forming part of the committee are Assumpció Bosch, Clàudia Jiménez, Francisco Morente and Xavier Navarro. Student representatives are Josep Artigas, Uxia Aguiló, David Capel and Marta Solans. And, with regard to members of the adminstrative and service staff, elected members are Ernesto Castaños, Míriam Lázaro, Dolors Sales and David Sánchez.

The drafting of new statutes is a requirement established by the deployment of the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), which came into force last April. In his speech, UAB Rector Javier Lafuente said that this process should become an "opportunity" to adapt the regulations to the objectives of the institution for the coming years and hoped that they would be "statutes for all members of the university community".

Secretary General Esther Zapater explained that with the Drafting Committee and the regulations approved in this senate, a "participative process" open to the whole of the university community has begun, which will take shape with the forthcoming creation of working groups that will debate the Committee's drafting proposal.
