International Day against Gender Violence commemorated with the restoration of the feminist mural

The event to commemorate 25-N took place in the Plaça Cívica on Friday 24 November at 1 p.m. UAB Secretary General Esther Zapater began the event by saying that gender-based violence is "a scourge that violates fundamental rights" and that "it fully involves all of society. She also stressed that "it affects all universities, because from here we can work to educate and act to make society free of gender-based violence. She pointed out that this year the commemoration aims to highlight the restoration of one of the emblems of the UAB in this area: the feminist mural in the Plaça Cívica.

After the inaugural speech, Andreu Ruedas, technician from the Observatory for Equality, read the manifesto of the Women and Science Commission of the CIC, followed by a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of gender-based violence.

The minute of silence was then followed by graphic designer Anna Carrasquedo directing the group painting to restore the feminist mural, with a live musical performance by the band Musical Sisters.

This mural was commissioned to the artist Clara Corax in 2020, but since then had suffered different attacks that damaged the mural completely. For this reason, the Observatory dedicated the commemoration of this year's 25-N to its restoration and thus reaffirm the commitment of the UAB to the eradication of gender-based violence and the construction of a feminist university.
