The association Erasmus Student Network (ESN) held his big National Event in Barcelona on 8, 9 and 10 March. This event gathered Erasmus students coming from all over Spain to get to know each other while spending some days together and it ended with a big popular calçotada in UAB.

Three times a year, Erasmus Student Network (ESN) organizes a national event with all sections throughout the country in a different city. Barcelona was the host city of this event. Each ESN section had up to four mentors who guided them during the event. Inclusiveness was also taken into consideration – accessibility of spaces for every activity was previously evaluated in order to make sure people with reduced mobility could join.

The main aim was to promulgate the Catalan culture to Erasmus students from other regions, which is why the character of all activities was pointed at them getting to know Barcelona and the Catalan customs and traditions.

The event started on 8 March, which was also International Women’s Day.  All activities on this day were related with this topic. The gymkhana session in the morning, called Women also make history, was inspired in important women in history. Later on, they held a Flag Parade in which every student represented their country whilst reclaiming women’s rights. All participants joined this dynamic march to the rhythm of a batucada.

The day after, 9 March, Erasmus students were taken on tours throughout the city of Barcelona. They got to see the Gothic Quarter, Park Güell, the Bunkers, Montjuïc and other emblematic spaces in the city.

The event ended on 10 March with a “Catalan day” in UAB with 1000 people approximately. Many activities were carried out during the day, including a big popular calçotada with castellers and traditional Catalan music.

The final balance of all activities was extraordinary; participation rate was high and both Erasmus students and volunteers were greatly satisfied.
