In solidarity with the victims and in defence of freedom of expression, the UAB Faculty of Communication Studies wishes to show its support to all those affected by the recent attacks on workers of the French newspaper.

"Attacks against freedom of expression infringe upon one of the basic pillars of the democratic states." Dean Josep Maria Català pronounced these words before holding a minute of silence in solidarity with Charlie Hebdo which united professors, students and administration and services staff members.

The faculty condemns the attacks and threats against people working in the media and journalism sectors and emphasises the need to defend this profession and its right to freedom of expression as a basic tool to overcome extremism and fanatism and construct a free and democratic society. "A pencil for peace, so to say", concluded Dean Català.
