Great turnout for the UAB Solidarity Race with 1,500 participants
The UAB Solidarity Race in support of the La Marató de 3Cat was a huge success, with 1,500 participants in the race or walk and over 50 volunteers. Over 21,000 euros were raised, which will go towards research in respiratory diseases. The UAB and the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, in collaboration and with the sponsorship of the University of Barcelona and Applus+ Laboratories, organised the13th edition of the UAB Solidarity Race which took place on Sunday 15 December.
The number of participants exceeded last year's figures, increasing from 1,200 to 1,500 people.
A total of 1,500 people took part in the UAB Solidarity Race, in support of La Marató de 3Cat on Sunday 15 December starting at 10:30 a.m., with the start and finish line at the Vila Universitària. Thanks to all the participants, the UAB has raised over 21,000 euros.
The start and finish of each race was at the Vila Universitària. At 10:30 a.m., the campus once again became a sportive and festive areas in this 13th edition.
As in previous years, there were four modalities of the race: two races of 11.6 km and 6 km, a 6 km walk and another reduced mobility walk of 480 metres (one of the very few races of this kind to exist in Catalonia). The routes were also the same as every year and passed through the town of Cerdanyola del Vallès, and parts of the campus and surrounding areas.
The event included the participation of federated runners, amateur athletes, families, staff members, lecturers and university students who, with their participation, contribute to a solidarity cause such as the one proposed each year by La Marató de 3Cat. All proceeds from participants will be donated to the La Marató de 3Cat Foundation.
After the race, participants were offered a cup of hot chocolate to help them warm up and regain their strength.
Another way of participating: becoming a volunteer
The organisation appreciates the collaboration of over 50 volunteers, who took care of the logistical and organisational tasks needed for an event like this, coordinated by the UAB's Solidarity Foundation (FAS).
Last year in the 12th edition of the race, a total of 1,200 people participated in the Solidarity Race, as well as 50 volunteers, and a total of 26,583.39 euros was raised, which was donated to the La Marató de 3Cat Foundation to fund research projects related to sexual and reproductive health, the theme chosen last year by the foundation.
