The 10th edition of UAB Barcelona Summer School ends with a theatrical performance calling for an end to war
The closing of the tenth edition of the UAB Summer School on Friday 1 August on the campus lawn, consisted of an emotional theatrical performance by students calling for the end of wars and genocide, followed by the awarding of diplomas to nearly 600 students from about 50 countries who participated in this international summer school.

The UAB's international summer school has brought together nearly 600 students from around fifty countries from five continents.
The closing ceremony of the second round of the UAB Barcelona Summer School, which began on 14 July and ended on 1 August, served to put an end to the tenth edition of this international summer school at the UAB, which over the course of six weeks (three in each period) brought together nearly 600 students of some fifty different nationalities from five continents, who enrolled in one of the 16 courses offered on campus during the second period, in addition to participating in a social activities programme.
The closing session took place on Friday 1 August on campus. During the event, students of the Urban Performing Arts course of the UAB international summer school gave a very emotional theatrical performance that outlined the global world in which we live with wars, refugees in camps, and cities full of noise and individualism. Musical pieces such as the pacifist anthem "Imagine" by John Lennon were played, which gave rise to the final message of all the performers demanding an end to wars and genocide in Palestine.
This was followed by speeches by UAB Vice-Rector for International Relations, Oscar Jané, and the academic coordinator of the UAB Barcelona Summer School, Graham Mortyn.
"We hope that during these days you have felt truly welcome, not only through the classes and the contents you have learned, but also through our way of teaching, the dialogues, the exchange of ideas, etc.", said the vice-rector, while thanking the academic team, the International Relations Area and the School of Continuing Education for the organisation.
Commitment to coexistence and diversity
The vice-rector also pointed out that the students of the summer school “are already part of the UAB; wherever you go, you will take a little bit of the UAB with you”. According to the vice-rector, the University not only wants to offer a commitment to knowledge “but also a commitment to coexistence, to diversity, and to the impact we can have as global citizens, because we live in an interconnected world, full of complex challenges and requiring open-minded, reflective people prepared to participate critically”.
After the speeches, the students received their diplomas for the courses they had enrolled in from their tutors, and they all bid each other farewell after this summer training experience.
