The UAB and the Fundació Catalana de l'Esplai (Fundesplai) recently presented an agreement thanks to which the staff of the Unit of Trauma, Crisis and Conflicts of Barcelona (UTCCB), which forms part of the Psychology and Speech Therapy Service of the UAB Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy will offer counseling sessions to the Fundesplai team.

The agreement was presented this morning at the headquarters of the foundation, in El Prat de Llobregat, in a ceremony attended by the Andrés Chamarro, dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy of the UAB; Cristina Rodríguez, general director of Fundesplai; Ingeborg Porcar, director of the UTCCB; and Carles Xifra, deputy general director of Fundesplai.

Fundesplai, an entity created in 1996, promotes the education “of children and young people in leisure”, as well as “the associative development with a will to transform and be socially inclusive”. In this sense, the foundation is interested in having specialised support in the development of its research and has established this collaboration with the UAB's UTCCB, founded in 2010 as the first centre for comprehensive approaches to crisis situations, stress and conflicts in Spain. The UTCCB provides care services for individual, family or mass crisis situations on behalf of the people affected, of the entities that sign an agreement with the UAB, and of any other organisation or entity, both public and private, that may request its services.

The service that the UTCCB will offer to Fundesplai will be divided into three lines of action. Firstly, assistance will be offered, individually or collectively, according to each situation and its level of impact. For this purpose, methodologies with a very high level of efficiency are used. Secondly, specialised advice adapted to the specific needs of the foundation will also be provided. And thirdly, the UTCCB will provide training for Fundesplai's executive board and management team. In its interventions, the UTCCB always makes available an exclusive e-mail hotline during the period of provision of services, which has also been contemplated in this case for Fundesplai.

At today's event, Dean Chamarro visited the Fundesplai facilities and expressed the willingness of the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy of the UAB to explore other avenues of collaboration with the foundation that go beyond crisis management, such as providing knowledge transfer, research, and training in the form of microcredits. Cristina Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this agreement, which adds to the different initiatives promoted by the organisation in the field of emotional wellbeing of individuals, and agreed on the possibility of working together in the field of training and research.
