Ian Blanes reelected director of the School of Engineering
Ian Blanes, lecturer in the Department of Information and Communications Engineering, was reelected director of the UAB School of Engineering, a position he occupies since 2022, in the elections held on 28 and 29 May.

The School's management team is formed by Jordi González, secretary of the centre and deputy director of Academic Affairs; Maria Aránzazu Uranga, deputy director of Economics and Quality; Carlos Borrego, deputy director of Students and Teaching Innovation; José López, deputy director of Strategic Projects; Aura Hernández, deputy director of Gender and Relations with Secondary Schools; and Francesc Xavier Roca, deputy director of Promotion and Relations with Entities.
Blanes lectures on topics that include web development, networks, computer security and project management. In terms of research and transfer, he is co-author of several international data compression standards for satellites and has participated in numerous technology transfer projects in both space agencies and industrial agents.
Blanes, who headed the only candidacy presented, has been the first director of the School of Engineering elected according to the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), with a system of elections by universal suffrage and weighted voting. The elections were carried out by electronic voting. The LOSU establishes that the term of office of the holders of elected unipersonal bodies is, in all cases, six years, non-renewable and non-extendable.
