Seventeen TFG on transformation for a global justice receive the Arcadi Oliveres Award
On Wednesday 7 May the UAB awarded 17 Final Degree Projects (TFG) on transformation for global justice. The Arcadi Oliveres Awards, as they are known, are awarded by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS). The project that stood out most were an analysis of the ideology of Martin Luther King, postpartum hemorrhage in people with fewer resources, urban green spaces and their resistance to drought, and the influence of educational role models in students of migrant origin.

The Arcadi Oliveres Awards ceremony, which took place in the conference hall of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, awarded 17 projects from the 2023/24 academic year from nine different UAB faculties: 5 from the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, 3 from the Faculty of Communication Studies, 2 from the Faculty of Education, 1 from the Faculty of Law, 1 from the Faculty of Medicine, 1 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, 1 from the Faculty of Biosciences, and 1 from the School of Engineering.
These awards, organised by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), have reached their eighth edition this year. Among the aspects analysed by these award-winning projects are things such as circular fashion, drought resistance, the migratory crisis, sustainability in cosmetic products, educational role models in people of migrant origin, the ideology of Martin Luther King in his speeches, and storytelling as a tool for empowerment.
The event was chaired by the secretary general of the UAB, Esther Zapater; the director of global justice and international cooperation of the Barcelona City Council, David Llistar; and the director of the FAS, Jordi Prat. Also in attendance were the award winners, the lecturers tutoring the projects, and family members.
David Llistar began the ceremony by stating that “education has the tools to revitalise democracy and human rights”, emphasising the projects oriented towards solidarity and global justice. Jordi Prat also dedicated a few words to thank both the students who focused their TFG on this perspective and the Barcelona City Council for their collaboration, and added: “These awards explain better who we are and what we do at the FAS”.
In the awards ceremony, each awarded student went on stage to collect the diploma and then offered a brief explanation of their project. All of them expressed their gratitude to the people who helped them during the completion of the TFG.
