On 1 April at 7:00 p.m., Maite Núñez, academic manager at the UISAD of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the UAB, presented the book of short stories Esta espera que lo envenena todo (Editorial Base) at the Documenta bookstore in Barcelona (Carrer Pau Claris 144). The event was attended by the writer Toni Hill.
A man who wants to celebrate his son's birthday, although everything seems to work against him; a teenager who spends most of the week at home alone; a boy who sees a friend's mother naked; an older woman who compulsively buys pregnancy tests... These are some of the protagonists of the stories that make up the book.
The stories in this new book by Maite Núñez, with which she invites us to return to the imaginary town of San Cayetano, intertwine and dialogue with each other to create a story made up of small stories. The story of a wait: the wait for a call, the wait for a diagnosis, the wait for a return that will not happen, the wait - finally - for a miracle. Sometimes even the wait for nothing. The texts are raw and painful, but also full of tenderness, which constitute a subtle look into human fragility.
Maite Núñez holds a degree in Modern and Contemporary History from the UAB and a degree in Documentation from the UOC. In addition, she also completed a PhD in Journalism at the UAB. Apart from her work as a manager at the UAB, her interest in the world of communication and literary creation has led her to publish short stories, articles and literary reviews in different magazines and anthologies. Among the most outstanding literary awards she has received, we find the first prize of the 5th Tanatocuentos contest (2005), the first prize of the 31st edition of the Certamen Internacional de Narrativa Tomás Fermín de Arteta (2008), and the first prize of the 5th Short Stories contest held by the Diari de Terrassa (2014). She was also finalist of the 11th and 12th short story contest Tierra de Monegros (2009 and 2010) and finalist of the 25th UNED short story award (2014). The stories in the book Cosas que decidir mientras se hace la cena, about characters who fight battles in bedrooms and kitchens, were awarded in the Short Story Contest “Hucha de Oro”, in the Short Story Contest Luis del Val, and in the narrative contest Tomás Fermín de Arteta.
