Juan José Perona, new dean of the Faculty of the Communication Studies
Juan José Perona, professor in the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Audiovisual Communication, has been elected dean of the UAB Faculty of Communication Studies.
The new team of the Dean's Office is made up of Jaume Soriano, secretary; Belén Monclús, vice dean for Academic Planning; Anna Fajula, vice dean for Faculty, Teaching Quality and Innovation; Ricardo Carniel, vice dean for Economics, Services and UABmedia; Matilde Delgado, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Audiovisual Communication and vice dean for Employability; Ileana Lis Zeler, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Organisational Communication and vice-dean for Students, Mobility and International Projection; Xavier Ribes, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Interactive Communication and vice dean for Final Projects; Santiago Giraldo, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Journalism; and Alfons González, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations and assistant vice dean for Faculty, Quality and Teaching Innovation.
Perona received his PhD from the UAB in 1992 and has spent time in different academic institutions in France, Portugal and Galicia. He has focused his research on the dimension of sound of the audiovisual language and is the author or co-author of more than a hundred articles, monographs and book chapters. He is the principal investigator of the Sound, Strategic and Transparency Communication Research Group (ComSET), responsible for the Infoparticipa Seal, and a member of the scientific association Icono 14, the Spanish Association of Communication Research (AE-IC) and the Association of Researchers in Public Relations (AIRP).
In the communication sector, Perona has been head of news at Ràdio Montcada, editor and collaborator of El Periódico de Catalunya, editor of RNE and president of the board of directors of Montcada Comunicació. As for his institutional responsibilities at the UAB, he has been coordinator of the Advertising and Public Relations studies and of the degree in Organisational Communication, coordinator of several master's degrees, director of the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Audiovisual Communication, vice dean and dean of the Faculty of Communication Studies from 1997 to 2000 and delegate of the rector for the quality of teaching. He was also president of the Commission of Social and Legal Sciences of AQU Catalunya for the verification, monitoring, modification and accreditation of bachelor's degrees and master's degrees.
The definite election results will be declared on 12 December. Perona is the first dean of the faculty to be chosen in accordance with the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), which establishes that the term of office of the holders of elected unipersonal bodies will be, in all cases, six years, non-extendable and non-renewable. The new dean takes over from Professor Enric Marín, who has been dean since 2021 until now.
