Solidarity campaign with Valencia
The UAB would like to express its solidarity with Valencia and its condolences for the victims of the storm that seriously affected the region and other surrounding areas on 29 October. The University has launched a fundraiser as a way for its community to help Valencians as they recover from the largest natural disaster ever seen in the region in terms of material damage and human lives.
Several initiatives to help the victims of Valencia have been proposed thanks to the innate and commendable solidarity of the people forming part of our university community. However, given the current lack of precise instructions on behalf of the local authorities (something that is fully understandable under these circumstances), the proposals are difficult to implement, either because of the type of aid needed or because of the difficulty to transport objects.
Therefore, for now, at the UAB we believe that the best way to help the thousands of affected people is to raise money through Mecenatge UAB, our crowdfunding platform, through which individuals, entities, organisations and companies can collaborate in solidarity with Valencia.
Where will the donations be used?
The UAB's Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), the recipient of the donations collected, will channel the aid in an orderly manner and through a programme created ad hoc. It will do so through entities that work in the area so that the affected individuals and families receive the necessary aid at all times, which may be in the form of food, clothing, utensils, construction material or school materials.
The FAS is a university social entity whose mission is to provide tools to help the university community become part of an active, critical citizenship and an agent of social transformation. To do so, the FAS designs and implements university social action projects and projects to raise awareness and promote a critical spirit with the ultimate goal of generating a social impact aimed at promoting social justice and improving the environment and quality of life of people.
