The Datathon is a key platform for UAB students to develop professional and personal skills in a practical and collaborative environment.

This year, the second edition of the Hackathon will take place in the form of a Datathon, a competition that seeks to encourage teamwork and problem solving posed by the company Deloitte in a realistic environment through a set of real-life data. This event will take place on 26 and 27 October at the UAB School of Engineering, which will become the epicentre of creativity and collaboration, where students from various disciplines, particularly in computer science, data and artificial intelligence, will come together to face challenges proposed by renowned companies, such as Deloitte, who will propose to work with virtual machines, organised into three levels of increasing difficulty.

This year, the 150 participants will not only have to demonstrate their technical skills, but will also be encouraged to develop innovative solutions that can be applied in the business environment. The event begins on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with participant registration and the opening ceremony, where details of the challenges to be addressed will be unveiled.

Throughout the weekend, attendees will enjoy a variety of activities designed to promote networking and interaction between students and industry professionals. After the opening, a coffee break will be offered where participants will be able to make valuable connections. At 11:30 a.m., the challenge will officially begin, at which time teams will get to work on their proposals.

In addition to the technical challenges, the agenda will include moments of entertainment, such as video game sessions and a fun competition called Wikirace, which will encourage teamwork and mental agility. These activities are essential to maintain the competitive spirit and enthusiasm throughout the intense work marathon.

On Sunday, after a long night of development, the teams will have the opportunity to present their solutions to a jury. From 11:30 a.m., the time to develop the proposals will close and the presentations will begin, followed by a coffee break and the awarding of prizes to the best projects. This phase will not only reward creativity and innovation, but will also allow participants to receive direct feedback from industry experts.

The Datathon is a key platform for UAB students to develop professional and personal skills in a practical and collaborative environment. This event not only benefits future professionals, but also offers companies the opportunity to connect with emerging talent and receive innovative solutions to their current challenges.

Last year, the event consisted of a hackathon, a meeting based on the collaborative development of software in areas such as sustainability, data management, AI, education, health, and mobility, where participants had 32 hours to work and propose solutions to the jury, with support from experts and professionals. Participating in the first edition were companies such as NTT DATA, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat and Caixa Enginyers.
