Four UAB students win medals at the European University Games

Eight UAB students, taekwondo athletes, participated in the European University Games 2024 that took place in the city of Miskolc, Hungary, from 19 to 24 July. Four of them won medals: one gold, two silver and one bronze.

Four UAB students climbed the podium at the European University Games 2024, in the category of combat taekwondo. They are Mikel Fernández, student of Psychology, who won the bronze medal; Alma Pérez and Adrián Salanova, students of Chemical Engineering, who each won the gold and silver medal; and Judit Merlos, student of Veterinary Medicine, who won the silver medal.

The European University Games, which began on 19 July and ended on 24 July, also included the participation of Marcos Aguilar, student of Law; Alba Murillo, student of Journalism; Julia Fernandez, student of Physiotherapy; and Laura Bonales, student of Criminology.

These UAB athletes, along with others from the UB, UdG, UPC, UPF and URL (in total, 21 athletes) formed part of the team of Catalan universities which, with the support of the General Secretariat of Sport, travelled to represent the Catalan University Sport (ECU) in these EUSA Games 2024, which took place in Hungary from 19 to 24 July.

The EUSA Games is a biannual event that brings together more than five thousand students from four hundred universities across Europe, who compete in various sports disciplines. This year the competitions were held in the Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc. The Catalan university athletes arrived to Hungary after qualifying for the Spanish University Championships on behalf of their universities.
