“I’m Young, I have cancer and I’m moving on”, that is how Mireia Camats and Andrea Martí define themselves. They are the creators of the Mi Compañero de Viaje project, which indents to give support to young people with cancer.
What importance do you think speaking in public has in every-day life and in university?
It is difficult for me to speak in public, but since I’ve been working in my project I feel that I can express myself better and I can speak in front of more people. When you have something to say it is very important how you say it.
In the conference, what will you speak about? Do you have any project?
In the conference I will talk about how the project, Mi compañero de viaje, was born and how we organize ourselves. The aim of the project is to offer support to young people with cancer and to raise funds for cancer research. We have started a project together with the Vall d’Hebron. It is important to offer young people who find themselves in the same situation the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns. The name of the project, My traveling companion, means that even if you get through the illness you need to keep running tests and you’ll never be able to ease this time from your memory.
How can your experience help UAB students?
Cancer is an illness that can affect everyone, young or old. We want to raise awareness about it, inform about what to do if one of your friends find themselves in this situation, etc. We want to give information about this tool in the UAB.
