A new edition of Campus Ítaca at the UAB, the XXVIII, organized by the FAS in collaboration with the Faculty of Education Sciences and with the support of Banco Santander, is back. Campus Ítaca is a socio-educational program that aims to motivate students who are about to finish the third year of ESO to encourage them to continue their training once they have completed compulsory secondary education. This year, the university will host two shifts. The first will have the participation of 136 students from June 28 to July 6, and the second will have 149 students who will visit the UAB from July 8 to July 16. So in this edition the stay has been extended to seven days.

60 institutes from the municipalities close to the UAB are participating. The selected young people, aged 15 and 16, have an interest in their studies but are in a complex socioeconomic situation that may lead them to prioritize entry into the labor market over continuity in their studies.

During their stay on campus, the young students from the different schools will take part in recreational and pedagogical activities, and will have the dynamisation of the activities with UAB teachers and the support and accompaniment of UAB monitors for reference. There will be workshops, problem solving activities based on real cases and research projects. As a novelty, they will work on a new project called “Entering into an invisible world”. This proposal from the Department of Genetics and Microbiology will allow students to investigate what microbes are like. In addition, there will be fun sports activities that are leisure activities in which the physical and creative part is developed in an educational and playful way, promoting socialization between classmates. All the activities are intended to promote a positive attitude towards study, feed their curiosity to continue learning and let them know everything that can be done on a university campus.

The 25 monitors of the Campus Ítaca will participate in a previous training on June 22 and 23 to prepare them for the activities. This year they will receive a communication tools workshop for the first time.

Due to the health situation, it will not be possible to hold inauguration and closing ceremonies as has been done in previous editions, but the FAS will publish the projects carried out during their stay on its website.
