23rd Giovanni Pontiero Translation Prize Award Ceremony

Catalan writer and poet Jordi Prenafeta is the winner of the 23rd edition of the Giovanni Pontiero Translation Awards, organised annually by the Centro de Língua Portuguesa/Camões I.P. of Barcelona and the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the UAB to pay tribute to the translator Giovanni Pontiero. The award will be presented to him on 30 November at a ceremony to be held at 4 p.m. at the UAB's Casa Convalescència.

Jordi Prenafeta has won this award with the translation into Catalan, published in 2022, of the Portuguese novel Contos do Gin Tonic (Fonoll) by the author Mário-Henrique Leiria (Lisbon, 1923 - 1980). The award comes with a cash prize of five thousand euros.

The aim of this award is to recognise writers who have translated into Catalan and Spanish literary works of any genre, originally in Portuguese and published during the two years prior to the award. On odd-numbered years, the award goes to translations from Portuguese into Catalan, and on even-numbered years, translations from Portuguese into Spanish.
