Ideal student profile

Graduates in Biosciences or Health Sciences, with a love for biology in general and microbiology in particular. Students should be optimistic about their learning abilities and their future as microbiologists. They should have a clear idea about what they want to achieve professionally, and be proactive, disciplined and enterprising in pursuit of their goals.

  • Apply the appropriate methodologies for sample collection, characterisation and analysis of microbial populations and communities.
  • Design tools and strategies based on microorganisms to optimise industrial processes, assess the environmental impact of human activity and recover polluted environments.
  • Display knowledge of the most up-to-date methodology used in environmental, molecular, industrial and clinical microbiology.
  • Interpret results from microbiological analyses in order to take appropriate decisions and propose solutions to biological problems in different areas.
  • Carry out tasks self-sufficiently in the field of microbiology and within a work environment.
  • Conceive, design and propose research projects and write review articles in the field of microbiology.
