Ideal student profile
Graduates in Biosciences or Health Sciences, with a love for biology in general and microbiology in particular. Students should be optimistic about their learning abilities and their future as microbiologists. They should have a clear idea about what they want to achieve professionally, and be proactive, disciplined and enterprising in pursuit of their goals.
Basic skills
-
Use acquired knowledge as a basis for originality in the application of ideas, often in a research context.
-
Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
-
Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
-
Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
-
Continue the learning process, to a large extent autonomously
Specific skills
-
Apply the appropriate methodologies for sample collection, characterisation and analysis of microbial populations and communities.
-
Design tools and strategies based on microorganisms to optimise industrial processes, assess the environmental impact of human activity and recover polluted environments.
-
Display knowledge of the most up-to-date methodology used in environmental, molecular, industrial and clinical microbiology.
-
Interpret results from microbiological analyses in order to take appropriate decisions and propose solutions to biological problems in different areas.
-
Carry out tasks self-sufficiently in the field of microbiology and within a work environment.
-
Conceive, design and propose research projects and write review articles in the field of microbiology.
Cross-curricular skills
-
Use scientific terminology to account for research results and present these orally and in writing.
-
Use scientific terminology to account for research results and present these orally and in writing.
-
Design and apply scientific methodology in problem solving.
-
Develop critical reasoning within the subject area and in relation to the scientific or business context.
-
Analyse research results to obtain new products or processes, assessing their industrial and commercial viability with a view to transferring them to society.
