Basic skills

  • Use acquired knowledge as a basis for originality in the application of ideas, often in a research context.
  • Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
  • Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
  • Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Continue the learning process, to a large extent autonomously

Specific skills

  • Recognise the anatomical and cellular structure of the nervous system, the cell biology of the different types of neuron and of the glial cells, and formulate experimental approaches to their study.
  • Analyze the performance of the motor, sensory and autonomic systems and the brain integrative functions, and know the experimental techniques used to study.
  • Explain how the intermediary metabolism of the nervous system, chemical processes and pharmacology transmission based receptors, transporters and enzymes of the metabolism of neurotransmitters or their transduction mechanisms work.
  • Identify and use the techniques for studying the neurobiological substrate of behaviour, neurodegenerative processes, neuroprotective strategies and strategies of plasticity of the nervous system.
  • Explain the basis of treatments for pathologies of the nervous system.
  • Conceive, design, develop and synthesise scientific projects in the field of neurosciences.

Cross-curricular skills

  • Seek out information in the scientific literature using appropriate channels, and use this information to formulate and contextualise a research topic.
  • Efficiently present research work and findings in neurosciences, orally and in writing, using English
  • Adapt to working in multidisciplinary teams in varying cultural and scientific contexts, creating and fostering a climate of open collaboration and team spirit.
  • Show responsibility in information and knowledge management.
  • Develop a deep sense of responsibility and respect for those affected by diseases of the nervous system and their families.
