Bachelor's Degree in Socio-Cultural Gender Studies

The main objective is to capacitate students to take into account gender and a multidisciplinary approach when analysing political, social, legal, economic, psychological and cultural phenomena. The bachelor’s degree will provide you with a multidisciplinary view of the gender binary system, critical with the inequalities this system has originated and naturalised – and continues to produce – up until today. You will become familiar with the tools used to act critically and responsibly when faced with the inequalities affecting specific groups, and contribute to correcting and preventing them.

The contents of this bachelor’s degree have been updated and reinforced, and starting in the 2023/24 academic year, the programme will consist of 240 credits, with a duration of four years.

This bachelor’s degree is for you if you are a person who understands that gender and sex-based inequalities are a question of human rights and justice, if you are committed to fighting for non-discrimination, have an open mind and the will to cultivate the capacity of observation and critical analysis from a comprehensive outlook on life.

As a graduate, you will be equipped with the knowledge to:

• Analyse social inequalities based on a convergence of variables such as class, race, sexuality, gender expression, age and/or functional diversity.
• Master the fundamental legal concepts related to women’s and LGTBIQ+ rights.
• Understand public policies’ central elements for gender equality and the prevention of discrimination based on sex, gender or sexual orientation.
• Master the tools needed to analyse discourses and audiovisual contents related to the construction and expression of gender identities.
• Use the adequate tools and techniques to diagnose and interpret the need for interventions in gender issues found in a variety of contexts.

Career options

This UAB programme will prepare you to intervene professionally in introducing the perspective of gender into different working environments through, for example, the design and implementation of plans for equality in companies and public institutions or the development of protocols adapted to current legislation on equality.
