The board of trustees of the UAB Research Park recently appointed Francisco Javier Lafuente, professor in Chemical Engineering and Vice Rector for Innovation and Strategic Projects, the centre's new director. He will be taking over from Buenaventura Guamis, who was the Park's director during these past four years.
From 6 to 9 September, the UAB is host to the latest meeting of the ECIU Leadership Development Programme, which unites university administration members from centres all over Europe.
Students and staff at the UAB interested in meeting new people and discovering other realities, and learning and fighting for social justice, can participate in one of the volunteering programmes coordinated by the Fundació Autònoma Solidaria (FAS).
The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), of which the UAB is member, has organised a meeting on innovative learning strategies which will be held on 19 and 20 September at the Lodz University of Technology.
Ten UAB students participated in the Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro this past August. They form part of the field hockey, water polo and swim teams. The female and male field hockey teams, and the female water polo team all won Olympic medals.

During the month of September, many of the UAB academic centres begin lectures and organise a series of welcoming sessions for first-year students beginning their university studies in the 2016/17 academic year.
All UAB centres will be closed from 4 to 24 August. Some services, however, will be available. The train service offered by the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) will be affected by construction work being carried out at the Sarrià station.
