Cultural diversity is כיום a cross-cutting reality across all areas of social, healthcare, and community services. In both primary care and specialized resources for childhood, international protection, humanitarian reception, or services addressing gender-based violence, an increasing number of professionals encounter situations where mental health and emotional well-being are deeply shaped by migratory trajectories, experiences of uprooting, and contexts of high vulnerability.
The specialization course "Mental Health and Psychosocial Intervention in Culturally Diverse Populations in Situations of High Vulnerability" responds to this need. It is aimed at professionals working with migrants, refugees, and culturally diverse communities, both in the field of childhood and adolescence and in adult care. Its goal is to provide advanced competencies to better understand the cultural, social, and political determinants of mental health and to develop more appropriate, effective, and human rights-based psychosocial interventions.
The program combines up-to-date theoretical knowledge, practical tools for interdisciplinary intervention, and real case experiences in protection contexts. At the UAB, we offer specialized teaching facilities, as well as collaboration with the Transcultural Psychiatry Program at Vall d'Hebron Hospital, a reference center in Catalonia for mental health and cultural diversity. This enables the incorporation of active methodologies, multimedia resources, and brings students closer to the complexity of professional practice.

- Acquiring cultural competence applied to mental health and psychosocial practice.
- Developing a biopsychosocial, rights-based perspective for both prevention and intervention.
- Learning concrete tools to work with populations who have experienced trauma, displacement, discrimination, or multiple forms of violence.
- Becoming part of anational network of professionals and services in this field, fostering coordination and mutual support.
This course is an opportunity to update knowledge, specialize, and improve professional practice in a growing field with high social impact.
