Mayor Zaragoza inaugurates the academic year defending the "transition from force to words"
Federico Mayor Zaragoza was unable to attend the inaugural ceremony held on 21 September for health reasons, but he did record a video in which he gave his opening lecture, focused on the culture of peace and particularly on the role of women and knowledge in the "transition from force to words".

Discovery of a new genetic syndrome which predisposes the body to cancer
A research led by Jordi Surrallés has identified a new genetic syndrome caused by mutations in both copies of the FANCM gene. The results, published in Genetics in Medicine, suggest that these mutations predispose the body to early formations of tumours and chemotherapy toxicity.

The UAB ranks 147 in this year's edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It is up 16 positions from last year's 163. The university improves its position in aspects such as citations, international outlook, and teaching.
