The first Recopharma work session took place on 17 and 18 January at the Faculty of Science, with the participation of representatives of all eight member institutions. This is the first time Cuba participates with the UAB in an H2020 programme.
The UAB's online journal UABDivulga recently received the National Research Prize 2017 from the Government of Catalonia and the Catalan Research and Innovation Foundation (FCRi) in the category of Scientific Communication.
As in previous years, the UAB centres will be closed during the period 23 December 2017 to7 January 2018. Some services, however, will still be operating.
Ana Ripoll, professor in computer architecture and former rector of the UAB, was awarded the 12×12 Dona TIC 2017 Prize in the category of "academic-researcher".
The 6th edition of the Cursa de la UAB in support of the TV3 Marathon, which took place on 13 December, was a complete success despite the low temperatures. This year's winners of the 6.4 race were Iván Limia Boo and Estefanía Chamorro Padilla, and there was also a 45 minute walk around campus. Technology consultants STP Group were this year's sponsors for the race.
The project Nanoplastics, launched by researchers at the ICN2, INC-UAB and CRAG, has created a single-layer biodegradable film to increase safety of packaged and extend their shelf life.
The Open Days, which will take place on 6, 7 and 8 February on campus, will include 200 talks in different centres on almost 100 bachelor's degrees offered by the UAB in the next academic year.
The Centre for Food Technology Innovation, Research and Transference and the Department of Animal and Food Science at the UAB have organised the 16th Workshop on Rapid Methods and Automation in Food Microbiology, taking place from 21 to 24 November at the auditorium (Sala d'Actes) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
On 16 November, the Friends of the UAB Association will celebrate their annual event with awards for Ana Ripoll, Josep Font, Antonio Franco and the CREAF. The Library and Social Council awards will also be given.
