Specialisation in Lactation and Donation of Human Milk

Are you a health professional and you dedicate yourself to the care of mothers and babies? Do you work in a hospital and want to create a human milk bank? Are you clear about the importance of breastfeeding for the health of the newborn and as a public and global health tool?

Breastfeeding is increasingly the option most chosen by women. That forgotten substance that has been human milk is today in the focus of the most advanced research at a biological and nutritional levels and is, in cases of extreme prematurity, the only therapeutic option for certain pathologies.

But breastfeeding goes far beyond nutrition, physiology and medicine and is a life-changing experience for every mother who chooses to breastfeed.

In this graduate diploma we approach breastfeeding from its multiple aspects: biomedical, anthropological, social, psychological, nutritional. Understanding breastfeeding as a complex phenomenon will give you tools to respond to each mother based on her circumstances.

You will specialize through an innovative methodology endorsed by the World Health Organization and specially designed for professionals with experience in caring for nursing mothers. You will attend in-depth seminars on specific topics in small groups led by high-level experts. You will work on real situations in simulated environments, to be able to reflect on your own practice and with your colleagues, who are also professionals in the sector.

You will be able to develop the research that you decide according to your area of ​​interest, hand in hand with a tutor that you choose from our teaching team.

We are the only program that includes training in Human Milk Banks, a booming health service throughout the world.

Choose a unique program, promoted by prestigious public institutions such as the Banc de Sang i Teixits de Catalunya (Department of Health), the Chair of Transfusion Medicine and Cellular and Tissue Therapy, the Catalan Association for Breastfeeding, and accredited by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat de Vic.

UAB masters and graduate diplomas may include or facilitate external academic internships in companies or institutions in order to help the student to achieve a level of expertise that facilitates the insertion or promotion in the workplace.
