International students propose solutions for the SAF's Techfit challenge
The students worked in five different groups and proposed a variety of solutions, such as creating a marketing campaign with tips to improve physical and mental health, applications promoting physical activity during breaks or personalised training, and the use of AI to create diet menus or training routines.
From 1 to 5 July, 3 UAB students and 24 students from the University of Stavanger (Norway), the University of Trento (Italy), the Hamburg University of Technology (Germany), the University of Twente (the Netherlands), the Lodz University of Technology (Poland), and Linköping University (Sweden) worked together to propose solutions for the TechFit Challenge: Empowering Healthy and Sporty Lifestyles through Technology, offered by the Servei d'Activitat Física (SAF) of the UAB and the sports service of the University of Trento.
After months of working on the challenge online, students enjoyed this mobility week at the UAB which ended with the presentation of the proposals for the challenge: to motivate students to be more active with the help of technology.
The first group presented a marketing campaign addressed to students to encourage them to create sustainable health habits with interactive and informative contents. The campaign should include sharing contents related to tips for better mental health and exercises, fitness challenges and healthy recipes, both on social media and on the university's website.
The second group presented an application with the goal of helping students find other people they can train with, try out new sports and organise fitness activities in group.
The third group proposed another application with actions to promote physical activity during class breaks. The application would include the creation of walking routes with the possibility of obtaining rewards if the set goals are reached.
The solution proposed by the fourth group was also an application that associates training stations with QR codes with exercise routines. This application would include a social part, since it would allow to follow friends and see their workouts.
The proposal of the last group was aimed at the creation of sports routines and diets using artificial intelligence.
The mobility week at the UAB combined group work sessions with visits to campus facilities, such as the Open Labs and the Physical Activity Service (SAF).
