Be part of it
Social entities, public institutions and private companies may participate at ECIU University, with the role of stakeholders of the challenges.
If you are part of one of these organizations and you know an open topic related to the territory, that you consider interesting to be worked with challenge-based learning (CBL), contact us by writing to eciuniversity.coordinacio.uab.cat.
The UAB will co-define with your organization a challenge proposal, that will be worked in a national and/or international context.
Here you can see anexample of a challenge developed together with a public institution: news on the UAB website.

ECIU Seed Programme
Until October 15, 2024, researchers from ECIU University members can submit proposals for the two actions of the Seed Program with the aim of initiating new research collaborations or strengthening existing ones. The Seed Program has two lines of action:
Combined Mobility to Create Networks (SP1): This line promotes interinstitutional collaboration through mixed exchange of research and innovation personnel. The goal is to create new networks or reinforce existing ones in five strategic research areas.
Seed Projects (SP2): The second line focuses on creating new R&D projects or strengthening existing ones. These projects must be linked to shared challenges in the involved regional ecosystems. ECIU University invites researchers to apply the challenge-based research approach for this action.
The ECIU member universities offering funding for their own researchers in this program are: Dublin City University, Kaunas University of Technology, Linköping University, Tampere University, Łódź University of Technology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universidade de Aveiro, and University of Twente. It is also possible for researchers from the Institut National donis Sciences Appliquées to apply for funding under Seed Program 2.
It is important to highlight that applicant teams must include researchers from at least three ECIU member institutions, and the principal investigator must be affiliated with the coordinating institution and hold a doctoral degree. Participation of master’s and doctoral students is encouraged and, in some cases, even mandatory.

ECIU Researchers Mobility fund
ECIU recognises the importance of developing a culture of transnational and multidisciplinary collaboration among its researchers at different member institutions all together. Being aimed at stimulating and facilitating its researchers for cross member institutions scientific collaboration, the ECIU Researcher Mobility Fund (RMF) is launched to promote researcher exchanges and scientific visits. In this context, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona promotes a Mobility Fund for Researchers, by facilitating exchanges of research ideas that may lead to the submission of joint applications to EU, national or international funding programs, thus amplifying the global impact of the consortium. You can check the ECIU RMF call guidelines details, including the evaluation criteria.
Application procedure and evaluation
The ECIU Mobility Fund application form must be completed and sent through the application form, ensuring that the following assumptions are met and the identified documents are attached:
- Applicants must identify and contact the host institution and get its agreement for the mobility, attaching proof of this confirmation.
- The budget must be detailed, with the limit of 4000€ (do not indicate only the maximum value allowed).
The evaluation process will be led by the UAB ECIU office and approved by the Comissió de Recerca i Transferència de la UAB. The decisions will be based on the criteria previously stablished in the call guidelines.
During the evaluation, adjustments to the funding requested may be made. Decisions will be communicated by the UAB-ECIU Office.
