Are you interested in becoming a maths teacher at the secondary school level, in both public and subsidised and private centres, and in acquiring the professional skills needed to become a teacher, combining theoretical and practical methods? This master's degree offers you the training needed.

The official master's degree in Teaching in Secondary Schools, Vocational Training and Language Centres must be completed by those wishing to work in different posts as secondary education and vocational training teachers.

The objective of the specialisation in Mathematics is to provide a professionalising training which enables graduates to teach mathematics and, at the same time, work as education mentors.

From the 2013/14 to the 2019/20 academic year, this master's degree has been offered every year as an interuniversity programme organised by five Catalan universities: UAB, UB, UOC, UPC and UPF. Starting in the 2020/21 academic year, the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) will no longer be participating in the programme. This change does not affect the study plan, and lectures currently offered by the UPF will continue to be offered among the other four universities (UAB, UB, UPC and UOC). The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona continues to be the coordinating university and classes will now be held at the UPC's Diagonal Sud campus (Barcelona).

The Open University of Catalonia decides to stop participating from the 2024-2025 academic year. This change does not imply any modification of the study plan beyond the redistribution of teaching between the other universities (UAB, UB, UPC). Coordination is maintained at the UAB and classes continue to be taught at the Diagonal Sud (Barcelona) UPC campus.

Career options

This master's degree must be completed by all those interested in teaching at different levels of secondary education and replaces the courses offered until now to obtain the Teaching Aptitude Certificates (CAP and CCP). Therefore, it is the only way to be able to teach at secondary level, both in private and public centres.

The main objective of this master's degree is to provide students with the skills needed to become secondary school teachers and be able to teach mathematics at that level and act as educators.

We recommend that students with qualifications from outside the European Higher Education Area and who have not yet homologated their qualifications contact the corresponding Professional Association for information on the requirements to work professionally in Spain.
