Official Master's Degree in Bioinformatics

Access

Access to this master's degree is open to holders of an official bachelor's degree from a Spanish university or from another higher education institution within or outside the European Higher Education Area, provided this gives access to postgraduate studies in the country of issue.

Admission requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in fields related to Bioinformatics. Degrees in life sciences (such as Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related areas) and technological or quantitative disciplines (such as Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or similar) will be given preference.

Candidates from other science or health science degrees may also be admitted, provided they can demonstrate prior knowledge of programming, statistics, and molecular biology. The suitability of the profile will be assessed by the Master’s Committee during the admission process.

Applicants must also have a B2 level of English according to the CEFR or equivalent. This level can be certified through an official recognized certificate, or by proving English proficiency through native language status, previous studies in English, or other certificates that will be evaluated and, if applicable, validated by the Master’s Committee. Candidates who do not provide the required documentation may be interviewed by a person designated by the Master’s Committee to assess their ability to follow classes without difficulty. The designated person will be able to evaluate language proficiency, focusing on the following observable aspects according to CEFR descriptors:

  • Fluency and coherence of speech.
  • Appropriateness and range of academic vocabulary.
  • Ability to interact and oral comprehension.

Selection criteria

When the number of applicants exceeds the available places, admission will be based on the following priority criteria:

  • Academic record and relevance of previous studies (70%)
  • Research experience (30%) demonstrated through:
    • Motivation letter
    • Participation in research projects and/or stays in research laboratories
    • Recommendation letters from professors and/or researchers
    • Published articles or conference presentations

In the event of a tie in the final score, the Master’s Committee may conduct an interview to assess the suitability of the academic profile and the motivation of the candidates. The interview will be carried out following previously established criteria.
