Bachelor's Degree in Business and Information Technology
Dual specialisation
In general, a mention defines a specific itinerary of subjects to be taken within a degree, proposing curricular intensifications around specific training aspects within the set of learning outcomes defined by the degree. However, a dual mention defines a specific curricular structure based on a common training project organized between the University and a collaborating organization (company, institution or public organization).
Objectives
The Dual Mention of the bachelor’s degree in business and technology allows students to develop and consolidate the main skills of the degree in a professional environment through a regulated learning process in alternation. Such a process is defined in a coherent and joint way between the academic and professional fields of the company hosting the student. Therefore, it allows the development of a strong link between the educational programme and the main skills defined for the degree with the professional project that the company needs.
The training objectives of the specialization are summarized as follows:
- To achieve, in the real environment of a digitization project carried out in a company or institution, the practical knowledge linked to the digital transformation of the functional area(s) involved in said project.
- To enable students to apply both knowledge and skills developed during their academic training to the resolution of real problems, proposing changes and/or improvements in processes and projects of specific companies, institutions and organizations.
- Deploy, in a real business context, skills worked on during the degree, such as adaptability, effective work in multidisciplinary teams, initiative and responsibility.
Characteristics
The Dual mention is configured to take the 60 credits that make up the entire fourth year of the degree. Of these 60 credits, 80% (1200 hours) are developed in the collaborating company, including two internships and the final degree project. The remaining 12 credits, following the work-study training model, will be picked up from the optional subjects offered in the degree, configuring an individual training project in which both the profile and functions planned for the internship of each student is considered.
In accordance with current legislation, once the selection process has been completed, the company hires the student from September to June/July. The student receives an economic remuneration in accordance with the applicable collective agreement (and never less than that of the SMI in proportion to the actual working time) throughout the entire stay. Likewise, each student is assigned two tutors, who are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the subjects that are developed in the company. One of the tutors is a professional from the company with a teaching collaboration agreement, and the other is a professor from the bachelor’s degree in business and technology.
The teaching of dual training is organized as follows:
- 1st semester: Work Placement I (18 ECTS), to be carried out in the company/organization at a daytime to be agreed upon, but preferably in the mornings, between September and January (450 h), and an optional subject of the degree (6 ECTS), to be chosen preferably from those taught in the first semester at the Faculty.
- 2nd semester: Work Placement II (18 ECTS) and Final Degree Project (12 ECTS), both carried out in the company/organization between February and June-July, with a total of 750 hours, plus an optional subject of the degree (6 ECTS), to be chosen from those taught in the second semester.
According to article 60.3 of the UAB Academic Regulations, students who have chosen to take the dual mention programme may return to the general programme of their degree voluntarily, provided that they have not passed half or more of the credits of the specialisation.

Admission requirements and process
Since the dual mention requires that students should carry out their stay in a company during the final stage of their studies, the following requirements will be considered:
- To participate in the selection process, students must have been enrolled in all subjects of the third year of the degree, as well as passed all subjects corresponding to the first two years (or at least should be able to pass them at the end of the academic year).
- Students should be able to enroll in the required 60 ECTS designed for the dual mention.
The admission process will be carried out each academic year during its second semester and will comprise the following five stages:
- Information stage: an information session for third-year students of the degree will be offered, presenting the programme and the general lines of the proposals presented by the collaborating companies.
- Application: it will be necessary to submit a CV, as well as a letter of motivation including reasoned preferences for a minimum of 3 of the proposals presented by the companies.
- Selection: based on the interviews carried out by the different collaborating companies with the students, and considering their respective expressions of preference, it will entail a final ordered list of selected students.
- Assignment: it will consider both the selection of students made by each company and the ranking of their academic records.
- Formalisation: includes the definition of the training programme planned for each student, as well as the appointment of the student's tutors during the development of the specialisation.
At the beginning of the process, the list of all students who meet the requirements to enrol the mention will be published, ordered according to their academic records scaled incluiding the grades obtained in the subjects of the first 5 semesters of the degree, considering all registered callas.
A total of 12 places are offered per academic year to undergraduate students.
