Sara Moreno, Vice-Rector for Students and Employability, and Vicenç Sellés, Director of the Treball Campus, presented in Brussels the programme Euroacció, a pioneering programme to encourage students and graduates to take up work placements in EU institutions. They also presented the Brussels chapter, the university's first international alumni section.
According to the QS ranking of universities founded less than 50 years ago, the UAB ranks first in Spain, second in Europe and ninth worldwide.
On 3 October, the official opening of the academic year took place at the Rectorat building. Rosa María Calaf gave a conference against ignorances and inequalities entitled "Sortim de l'ombra. Contra la ignorància i la desigualtat".
From 12 to 17 September a new edition of International Welcome Days (IWD) will take place; a week full of activities for new international students attending the UAB.
The board of trustees of the UAB Research Park recently appointed Francisco Javier Lafuente, professor in Chemical Engineering and Vice Rector for Innovation and Strategic Projects, the centre's new director. He will be taking over from Buenaventura Guamis, who was the Park's director during these past four years.
From 6 to 9 September, the UAB is host to the latest meeting of the ECIU Leadership Development Programme, which unites university administration members from centres all over Europe.
Students and staff at the UAB interested in meeting new people and discovering other realities, and learning and fighting for social justice, can participate in one of the volunteering programmes coordinated by the Fundació Autònoma Solidaria (FAS).
The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), of which the UAB is member, has organised a meeting on innovative learning strategies which will be held on 19 and 20 September at the Lodz University of Technology.
