This week the newspaper La Vanguardia interviewed Anthony Bottoms, a criminologist and professor at the universities of Cambridge and Sheffield, in its section 'La Contra'. Professor Bottoms received the distinction of doctor “Honoris causa” from the Autonomous University of Barcelona a few weeks ago.

He is one of the main promoters of a humanist criminal policy sustained on empirical bases. Bottoms studied at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and taught at the University of Sheffield. He rejoined Cambridge in 1984, where he became director of the Institute of Criminology and later director of the Centre for Criminal Theory and Philosophy. His work is based on the concept that the most advanced crime policies must have empirical support for their effectiveness.
