Hands Across the City: Musicians and Handedness in Urban Contexts
Description:
The Scenic Arts Research Centre organises for 4 June at 11:00 a.m. an international symposium entitled Hands Across the City: Musicians and Handedness in Urban Contexts. The activity will take place in the Sala Tarotdequinze of the UAB Faculty of Arts & Humanities.
The symposium aims to investigate laterality through musicological, paedagogical and neuropsychological perspectives based on practice. Those interested can sign up on this online form.
- Folk Songs for Inverted Guitar. Practice-based observations on playing guitar transcriptions ‘upside down’., by Danica Hobden, musician and researcher specialised in instrumental practice and laterality from the Hamburg University of Music and Drama.
- ‘Left-handed’ instrumental play in Germany – from an artistic, educational and academic perspective., by Laila Kirchner, musician and researcher from the Cologne Unviersity of Music and Dance.
- Maybe YOU’RE Playing Backwards. Laterality, identity and the case for the idiodextrous brain., by Greg Gottlieb, researcher in art and musicology at the UAB.
- Flipping guitar. An essential analysis of historical and contemporary approaches to the classical guitar posture, by Francesca Naibo, guitarist, lecturer and researcher at Siena Jazz University.
- "Introduction to the research project Music and City: places, institutions and encounters since the Industrial Revolution", by Francesc Cortès, lecturer in art and musicology at the UAB.
