Competency 9 of the current curriculum, focused on metalinguistic competence, aims to develop secondary students ability to reflect on language and its uses. This involves a methodological shift in grammar teaching, placing greater emphasis on students active role and on building knowledge about language that connects with their prior understanding, enhances their linguistic skills, and helps them grasp how the linguistic system works.
For this reason, this microcredential sets out two main objectives. First, it seeks to update the linguistic and metalinguistic competence of secondary education teachers so they can approach linguistic content from the perspective of having to teach it. Second, it aims to provide them with theoretical foundations and didactic strategies to promote students reflection on language through the analysis and creation of learning situations that teach grammar through reflection, both in compulsory secondary education and in the baccalaureate.
To achieve these goals, the sessions are based on real-life situations, the resolution of which must address the difficulties identified in classrooms and make it possible to establish and analyze the connections between communicative competence and reflection on language, taking into account teacher feedback as a tool in service of metalinguistic reflection.
