The course is planned in four three-hour face-to-face sessions linked to practical content. A final two-hour face-to-face session for the presentation of the learning activities developed in groups.

Schedule and distribution of the sessions:

  • Rocks and minerals (4/11, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM)
    Introduction to new methodologies and tools for the classification of rocks and minerals. Case study of the travel suitcase as a learning situation in the curriculum. Practical approaches to working on the importance of minerals and rocks in the everyday world and the energy transition.
  • Digital tools for exploring the Geosphere (11/11, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM)
    Online resources and digital tools for the virtual exploration of the geosphere. Geospatial information. Open databases accessible at the local (e.g. ICGC) and global levels. Examples of practical application linked to the dynamics of the Earth.
  • Natural risks and resource exploitation (18/11 from 16:00 to 19:00)
    Practical resources for teaching natural risks and resource exploitation. Collection of practical cases of learning activities based on active roles of students.
  • Geological Map. Digital tools (25/11, from 16:00 to 19:00)
    Introduction to the geological map and its importance as a geological synthesis document. Tools for the basic interpretation of maps. Use of open digital tools for the development of teaching materials: Visible Geology. Geological map resources on the network.
  • Presentation of group activities (2/12 from 16:00 to 18:00)
    The sessions will be held in the laboratories of the Department of Geology and in the computer room of the Faculty of Sciences on the Bellaterra campus (UAB).
