We are witnessing times of social, technological, and political change that clearly indicate that the social fabric is unraveling (individualism and the multiplication of conflict in the public sphere within an increasingly diverse and unequal society). In this context, both academic literature and the analysis of local projects and public policies highlight the potential of proximity facilities (community centers, youth and senior centers, neighborhood hubs, libraries, etc.) to foster social cohesion through the relationships and social bonds they promote. They thus become social and community infrastructures: factories of social capital. However, we know that the strategic and methodological approach regarding organization, governance, and activities within these facilities can either limit or amplify their potential. This course is dedicated to presenting, in a practical way and through real cases, the strategies and methodologies needed to turn proximity facilities into genuine community infrastructures.
