The master's degree in pelvic floor dysfunctions responds to the need for gynecologists to have specific and specialized training in the management of pelvic floor pathology. Pelvic floor dysfunctions, in most cases, involve various systems and organs (genital, urinary, digestive, musculoskeletal), with simultaneous affections. Therefore, a holistic approach to the problem is essential, through an interdisciplinary, multi-specialty, and multimodal approach.

The training consists of an online theoretical part and a face-to-face part (mainly practical). The theoretical part includes online training organized into subjects on basic concepts and advanced knowledge in pelvic floor pathology. This part is supported by a learning platform that includes lectures, online activities, evaluation exercises, and relevant bibliography on different topics.

The master's program includes a 4-month face-to-face stay for each student, predominantly at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau with temporary stays at the Puigvert Foundation and the Hospital Dos de Maig. Rotations will mainly take place in the Gynecology Pelvic Floor Unit, acquiring theoretical-practical knowledge from clinical assistance in specialized consultations as well as skills in imaging and functional tests that are part of the diagnosis of pelvic floor dysfunctions and participation as assistants in operating rooms on urogynecological pathology. Additionally, based on the anatomical and functional interrelation of pelvic floor structures, rotations will be carried out in consultations of other medical-surgical specialties involved in the approach to Pelvic Floor dysfunctions such as Urology, General and Digestive Surgery, Digestive Pathology, Pain Clinic, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Finally, the student will participate in Committees and collaborate in the clinical sessions and internal training activities of the Service.

Career opportunities

Once the training is completed, you will be able to apply the acquired skills as:
- Specialist in pelvic floor pathology at the care, management, and research level in Hospitals of Level II and III
- Expert ultrasonographer in pelvic floor pathology
- Head of pelvic floor pathology clinic (gynecology service)
- Leader of professional teams in pelvic floor pathology
- Manager of research groups in projects on pelvic floor dysfunctions as the principal investigator

Internships

The objective of the curricular internships in Pelvic Floor is to carry out a supervised professional work. The master's student in the internships will be able to attend real situations with the aim of understanding, integrating, and transforming theoretical learning into skills, and acquiring abilities to solve problems through practical experience.

The student brings their theoretical knowledge and skills to practice to extract their own experience in their own interest. The internships will always be authorized and supervised in such a way that they allow safe learning on real patients.
