Local authorities are an important part of the public administration in Catalonia given that they are the people dealing closest with citizens. According to principles of subsidiarity, they are also the ones who offer the largest number of services, always with the main aim of guaranteeing the welfare of citizens.
The large number of municipalities (over 965) in Catalonia and the corresponding supra-municipal organisations, the existence of counties and other local administration bodies, as well as non-territorial administrations make the need for professionals in the field highly important. This professional body needs adequate training and professional skills to carry out the complex variety of competences and functions they are entrusted with. The Master in Local Law and Management aims to answer the need for trained professionals in this field.
There is the need to establish homogenous training standards throughout Catalonia in local administration matters (law, management, taxes, etc.) with the purpose of guaranteeing the necessary and adequate theoretical and practical skills to those graduates interested in entering this professional field.
