We present the Lifelong Learning Master's Degree in Interventional Cardiology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, for which we offer the possibility of theoretical and practical training in interventional cardiology for 2 years.
The master's degree will be carried out at two centres, the Vall d'Hebron Hospital and the Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital, both centers associated with the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The hemodynamic units of both hospitals are comprehensive percutaneous approach units, where practically all pathologies of daily cardiac care are addressed, including coronary pathology, structural heart disease and congenital heart disease. The units are accredited by the Spanish Society of Cardiology to provide training in interventional cardiology.
Likewise, these are two units that actively participate in numerous research studies, both their own and in collaboration with other national and international groups.
The aim of the master's degree is to achieve a comprehensive theoretical and practical training in the field of coronary interventionism, meeting the requirements jointly indicated by the Section of Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SHCI) and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI), to obtain accreditation in coronary interventionism.
It has a theoretical content, in which all aspects of knowledge that are involved in the subspecialty are addressed. The syllabus to be developed is based on the indications of the EAPCI. We will develop this syllabus in weekly clinical sessions given by the team of the hemodynamics unit of our centre.
The development of the master's degree has a fundamentally practical component. The fundamental aim of the course is the progressive acquisition of the practical skills required by the Spanish and European scientific societies, in order to meet the criteria they set for accessto accreditation. The training will consist, on the one hand, in the commented review of the cases carried out daily and, on the other, in the progressive participation in the procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, supervised by a tutor, assistant physician of the unit. The accreditation recommendations established by the EAPCI and the SHCI of the Spanish Society of Cardiology will be followed.
Likewise, throughout the completion of the master's degree, a supervised research project will be carried out that will culminate in the presentation of a final master's thesis, the objective of which is to train the student in the tools of scientific research and publication of knowledge.
