Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) uses movement within a creative process which addresses the psychophysical wellbeing of the person and does so by establishing a therapeutic relationship which goes beyond the meeting of two minds. This is how it is described by the different professionals who are holders of this program degree in a video made with the participation of our students.
This programme began in 2003 following the directives of the Spanish Dance Movement Therapy Association (ADMTE) and the consolidated programmes offered in the Britain and the USA. In 2007 we became part of the European Consortium for Arts in Education (European Consortium for the Arts Therapies in Education), the European network for university studies in creative therapies which has promoted exchanges of professional experiences among different disciplines through the organisation of biannual conferences and the production of a number of specialised publications.
On several occasions we have brough together internationally recognised professionals, especially for the celebration of the 10th and 15th anniversary of the program degree course in 2013 and 2018 and during the Luso-Hispanic seminars in 2005, using materials selected from different publications such as ¡Con-muévete y mueve el mundo! o (Encontrar, compartir, aprender.
After 18 years we are now extending our programme to 120 ECTS credits on the recommendation of the European Association of Dance Movement Therapy (EADMT), we are including a greater research component, more reflection on movementand more clinical applications with the intention of offering our students an optimum professionalisation within the discipline.
Prior to the start of the programme, it is necessary to participate in an in-person Introductory Sessions weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Dates are:
- 5/6/7 July 2024.
- 20/21/22 September 2024.

Internships
Clinical practice is carried out in the first and second year of the Lifelong Learning
Master's degree (a total of 600 hours). The timetable depends on the institution where the placement is done. They are usually two days per week of 6-8 hours.
Students have to relate theory and practice and develop clinical and professional skills. They learn to work as a member of a professional team, provide dance movement therapy sessions to selected patients and users in collaboration with the institution's professional team, and develop and carry out clinical cases under supervision. They also learn to communicate with patients and users and facilitate therapeutic interactions.
They create a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, identify patients' needs and emotional problems. They also keep records of sessions and patient progress and transmit information clearly and effectively to other members of the team as part of the treatment programme.
