REDCap is a free software which allows you to design and manage health databases online. Since its creation in 2004 by Vanderbilt University, it has been constantly expanded and improved, so that it is currently used by thousands of research institutions around the world.
The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of the tool to achieve quality data captures, making the most of the possibilities it offers.
The course starts from scratch with a tutorial where students practice on their own the basic aspects of form design. Already in the synchronous online sessions, a lot of attention is devoted to understanding the types of data structures in REDCap projects, and how these structures impact data capture. Then we work on the more advanced aspects of forms: elaborate interfaces, jumps, calculations and "responsive" design (adapted to all types of devices). The "surveys" (questionnaires self-administered online by the patients themselves) are also a very useful tool that is studied in depth, because the REDCap offers enormous possibilities for their management. Finally, different aspects related to project administration are reviewed: users, multi-language, programming, data exports, etc.
During the development of the course, theoretical classes alternate with student work, always oriented towards practical examples. The final assessment test also consists of the practical development by the student of an own project that must meet minimum requirements.
UD2: Structure of a project
UD3: Introduction and management of records
