Ideal student profile

The master's degree is basically addressed to graduates in speech therapy, but also to other university graduates interested in communication and language disorders (psychologists, teachers, doctors and linguists), given that this professional field has a strong interdisciplinary tradition which advances thanks to the results of research in several disciplines.

Knowledge of B1 level English and B2 level Spanish of the Common European Framework of Reference for the languages ​​of the Council of Europe are required

 

Basic skills

  • Knowledge and understanding that provide a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and / or applying ideas, often in a research context.
  • That the students can apply their knowledge and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.
  • That students are able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
  • Students can communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.
  • That students have the learning skills that enable them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Specific skills

  • Show interpersonal communication skills and managing emotions for effective interaction with patients, families and caregivers in the process of problem identification, evaluation, communication of diagnosis and intervention and monitoring.
  • Collect, analyze and critically use sources of information necessary for the evaluation and speech therapy. Update, relate critically and apply to the professional activity of different theoretical frameworks on the processes of learning and acquisition of communicative processes.
  • Design and implement strategies to intervene from a biopsychosocial approach to facilitate the social inclusion of people affected by communication disorders and language.
  • Adjust and monitor speech therapy plans, depending on the evaluation and individual and social variables concurrent versus new and complex problems.

  • Develop professional practice from the perspective of quality and continuous improvement, able to evaluate and optimize.
  • Master the skills and resources necessary to teamwork and multidisciplinary groups.
  • Apply the scientific method in professional practice.
  • Understand and critically analyze the law covering the professional field.
  • Apply the fundamentals of bioethics and act according to the ethical code of the profession considering the cultural diversity and the limitations associated with various diseases.
  • Knowing the activities necessary for the establishment, implementation and management of a company, its different legal forms and legal, accounting and tax obligations associated.
