Audiovisual archives
On this page we explain how to find audiovisual archives in the UAB Library Search tool, the Communication Library and the Internet
Subjects in the catalogue are in Catalan. You can search by Arxius audiovisuals. You may also be interested in Audiovisuals, Cinemateques, Fonoteques, Fototeques, Videoteques and Televisió - Arxius.
The UAB libraries have subscribed to Academic Video Online, a streaming educational video platform with more than 70,000 titles.
You will find documents on audiovisual archives on the 3rd floor of the Communication Library at call number 026.06. See the 3rd floor plan (zone A)
1. Television station archives
- Argentina: Archivo Histórico RTA. Argentinian public radio and television programs since the 1930s
- Australia: ABC Archives. Australian public television archives
- Canada: CBC Digital Archives. Historical Canadian radio and television broadcasts from the 19th century to the present
- Colombia: Señal memoria. Archive of the National Radio Television of Colombia (RTVC). Radio programs since 1940 and television since 1954. They also preserve the film material produced since the 40s
- Spain: RTVE. You can browse by topics, decades and programs. It includes an archive of RTVE Catalunya where you can browse by series, specials, theatre, etc.
- France: Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA). Archive of radio and television programs
- Germany: Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv (DRA). Archive of the German public broadcasting corporation
- Greece: EPT Αρχείο. Archive of the public radio and television corporation of Greece
- Hungary: NAVA. National Hungarian audio-visual archive. Hungarian TV programs of both public service and commercial TV stations.
- Ireland: RTÉ Archives. Archive of this public broadcasting corporation
- Italy: RAI Teche. Radio programs (since 1924) and television (since 1954)
- Portugal: RTP Arquivos. Archive of the Portuguese public radio and television company. Includes radio files since 1936 and TV since 1957 with a great diversity of contents
- Switzerland: RTS. Archives. Archive of this television station since 1954
- United Kingdom: BBC Archive. Radio and television programs of this station since the 1930s. Also History of the BBC
- United States
- American Archive of Public Broadcasting. Project of the Library of Congress and the WGBH radio station. Radio and television archives of more than 100 US public broadcasters since 1940. It allows searching and browsing through special themes or collections
- AP Archive. Video archive of the Associated Press (AP) news agency with more than 1 million videos since 1895. Includes news collections from major TV stations
- The Interviews: An Oral History of Television. From the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences of the USA. You can watch numerous interviews with television legends. Also on YouTube
- United Kingdom: BBC Archive. Radio and television programs of this station since the 1930s. Also History of the BBC

a) Spanish-American sphere
- Sound Archive of the Radio in Catalonia. Proyecto of the Institute of Communication InCom-UAB and the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives. It collects a sample of sound fragments from Catalan and Spanish stations present in the broadcasting bands in Catalonia and from the Catalan radio stations that distribute their content over the Internet
- Biblioteca Digital Hispánica. From the National Library of Spain. Sound recordings that include perforated discs from the late 19th century
- Devuélveme la voz. Project of the University of Alicante that wants to spread the sound contents of the radio stations that, like Radio Paris, in exile or covertly in Spain, defended the democracy against Franco's regime. Includes mainly sound files (with search options), but also images, documents and videos
- Filmoteca española. It has several collections of videos. A page in collaboration with RTVE allows us to see the NO-DO (the news program of Franco's regime, 1943-1981) and other documentaries, movies and short films
- Fonoteca de Radio. It allows us to listen historical voices such as La Pasionaria or Azaña and includes a sound archive by categories
- La nostra memòria. Audiovisual archive against the repression of the Franco's regime promoted by the Diputación de Valencia
- Plat. Archive of experimental Spanish cinema, initiative of Kinora, association for literacy, dissemination and audio-visual research

- EUscreen. Project of the European Commission. Videos, images, text and audio of European televisions and audio-visual archives
- Memoriav. Institution that promotes the preservation and use of the Swiss audiovisual heritage. It includes the Memobase database
- European Film Gateway. Page that gives access to historical documents of European cinematographic archives. It is part of Europeana and includes a lot of documentaries and news
- Europeana. Digital library of the European Union gathering millions of documents from national libraries, archives, museums and European audio-visual organisations. It includes video and sound files and virtual exhibitions.
- Luce Cinecittà (Roma). Includes a historical archive with photographs and videos (documentaries, cinegiornali) since 1924
- European Comission- Audiovisual services. Archive of videos about the European Union and its history
- National Library of Scotland. Moving image archive. Extensive search options
- East Anglian Film Archive. Almost 2000 videos about the East of England
- The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. Several collections of videos, many of them with CC license
c) International
- Historical voices. Different collections with voices of American personalities
- History and Politics Out Loud. Sound files of historical personalities of Anglo-Saxon scope
- Internet archive. It contains a multitude of image and sound collections: Moving images archive (Prelinger archives, "ephemeral" films, Television archives, feature films, short films, silent films, trailers , etc.) and Audio archive (music, speeches by US presidents, conferences, etc.). Also Radio programs and Audio News & Public Affairs
- Korean Classic Film. YouTube page of the Korean Film Archive
- Library of Congress (Washington). Includes many sound recordings (for example, American Leaders Speak: Recordings from World War I ) and audio-visuals from the 18th century
- Museum of the Moving Image in New York. Includes Artist in conversation (former Pinewood dialogues), conversations with leading figures in film, television and digital media
- National Film Preservation Fundation. Organisation created to preserve the cinematographic heritage of the USA. The page gives access to more than 2700 films with search options
- The Open Video Project. Archive with about 4,000 digital videos maintained by the School of Information and Library Science of the University of North Carolina. It allows search by keyword or browse by genres, collections, etc. It includes historical videos about mass media such as Radio and Television (1940), On the Air (1937) or Journalism (1940)
- The Public Domain Review. Curiosities in the public domain; includes videos and audio
- Top documentary films. More than 3000 documentaries by subject
- UNESCO. Multimedia Archives eServices. Audio-visual material created by the organisation or related to its history and activities

- Focal (Federation of Commercial Audiovisual Libraries International) . Its website includes a large directory of commercial companies that offer videos. In most cases the visualisation is free
