ICTA-UAB researchers, jury members for the 2024 Ciudad de Barcelona Awards
The 2024 Ciudad de Barcelona Awards, which recognize excellence in the scientific field, included experts from ICTA-UAB as jury members in the Environmental and Earth Sciences category. The specialists highlighted the innovation, global reach, and scientific contribution of the awarded study.
Since 1949, the Ciudad de Barcelona Awards have evolved alongside the city, adapting to the social, cultural, and scientific changes of each era. For the first time, the awards dedicated to the scientific field held a separate ceremony on May 26, apart from the other categories, which were presented in March. This initiative aims to provide a more specific recognition to professionals contributing to the city’s scientific development.
ICTA-UAB researchers Isabelle Anguelovski, Panagiota Kotsila, and Andre Colonese served as jury members in the Environmental and Earth Sciences category.
Isabelle Anguelovski also made a speech as vice-president of the Barcelona Scientific Advisory Council.
In this edition, the award was granted to the study 2024 Europe Report of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change: Unprecedented Warming Demands Unprecedented Action, led by researchers Kim van Daalen, lead author, and Rachel Lowe, head of the research team.
The ICTA-UAB experts particularly valued the study’s innovation, international scope, significant scientific contribution, and interdisciplinary approach. They also considered the publication a key reference for studying the impacts of climate change on health. Furthermore, they highlighted that the solutions and policy changes proposed in the report incorporate an important social component, strengthening its impact beyond the academic sphere.
With this new edition, the Ciudad de Barcelona Awards reinforce their commitment to promoting talent and innovation in the city.
