  • 12 – 13:30h - Townhall: What does it mean to do “brave science”? -  (Sala Montseny)

In this summer symposium activity, the organizers at CARES propose creating a space for an important conversation at ICTA-UAB: what it really means to do “brave science”, the tagline of ICTA-UAB, in a world of intensifying crisis: what if everything is not excellent, actually? In the last year, researchers at ICTA-UAB have organized independently to campaign against the genocide in Palestine, to fight against sexist harassment at the university, and to struggle for fair working conditions and contracts amid the crisis in academia. In parts of the world where many of us are from, a wave of academic repression and crackdowns is under way as faculty members and students face censure for speaking out against a wide range of injustices. As the CARES collective, we ask: why are these struggles often so invisible at our workplace?
